genealogy

I think I must be one of the lucky ones because in only a couple hours surfing the internet I was able to trace my family line back to my first direct descendant to come to America. His name, John Ledford. Not very exciting name huh? Well here's how it breaks down.
John Ledford 1724-1799 Lancaster, England
Obediah Ledford 1761-1841 NC
Isacc Ledford born 1799 NC
Noah Ledford born 1837 NC
Curtis Ledford born ca. 1870 NC
Claude Ledford born 1900 NC
Charles Dennis Ledford Sr born 1940 NC
Charles Dennis Ledford Jr born 1979 SC
Me and John Ledford (the first Ledford to come to America) are the only ones to not be born in North Carolina. That is actually kind of cool. Not as cool as the name Obediah but still cool none the less.

My name's a little harder to track. According to some website I found, about half of the Faircloths that immigrated here were from England, and slightly less were from Ireland.

My mother's maiden name is Olliff, which comes from Olife, a Scottish name (or so the plaque in my grandpa's hall says), and I even have some Cherokee blood -- my dad's great grandmother was named Round Tree.
